Praying as Saeed Abedini Marks
2 Years in Iran’s Prison
ICC joined hundreds of people who gathered outside the White House on Thursday evening to launch a series of more than 500 prayer vigils across the United States and around the world calling for the release of Saeed Abedini. September 26th marks two years that Saeed has been in an Iranian prison, he is now serving an eight year prison term for his faith in Jesus.
Saeed has brought a face to the persecution of Christians around the world and the vigils were organized not just to pray for Saeed’s release but to pray for all of those suffering for Jesus.
Naghmeh Abedini, Saeed’s wife, read from a letter that Saeed wrote to his daughter Rebekah. In the letter he shared with her how to understand and persevere through trials.
“People die and suffer for their Christian faith all over the world and some may wonder ‘why?’ But you should know the answer of WHY is WHO. It is for Jesus. He is worth the price.”
Saeed’s children led the prayer vigil in one of their dad’s favorite songs, singing that Jesus is worth the price that their dad is paying.
This is the message that Saeed wants his 8 year old daughter to hear, and it is the message that the church should hear. Jesus is “altogether lovely, altogether worthy, altogether wonderful to me,” as Saeed’s children sang. They are echoing the words of their father from an Iranian prison cell
“It is for Jesus. He is worth the price.”
