Do Your Part
by Bishop Keith A. Butler
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Much of the faith teaching when I first came into the ministry was what I call the lollipop kind. God was like Santa Claus, and all you had to do was say certain things and do certain things, and as a result you received money or whatever you needed with no trouble and no problem.
Let me tell you what happens when people follow that kind of teaching. When they don’t get the result, they become discouraged, because satan will immediately hit them with affliction and persecution for that Word. They then are at risk for becoming offended. They may even stop going to church altogether.
There are a lot of people like that today. They feel as if they were taken advantage of and lied to, although that wasn’t necessarily the case. They just received bad teaching. There’s more to living a life of faith than following teaching that says, “You don’t have to do anything. All you have to do is believe.” You have a part to play. When you can’t do what you are supposed to do anymore, when you are at the end, that’s where the anointing can pick up and take you past what you are able to do yourself and put you in a position of winning. You can pray all you want about getting a good grade on an exam, but if you don’t do your part -if you don’t study -the prayer will be of no value.
Prayer for Today
Father, I praise you for giving me faithful teachers of the Word who not only proclaim it but teach me how to study and meditate on your truths. I pray that you bless these messengers with your abundant grace and provision this day. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
